Synopsis

After the mysterious disappearance of her fiancée, a young sculptor moves to a house in a
far-flung corner, where the few occupants of the area all seem to have moved here from
somewhere else, each carrying their own secrets.
After mysterious apprehension, disappearance of her fiancée, Farhad, a young sculptor named Parvaneh
moves to a house in a far-flung corner in the north of Iran. The few occupants of this area all seem to have
moved here from somewhere else, each carrying their own secrets, and she lives with the hope of some
news from him even though she is not even sure if he is still alive. The only thing that makes her happy is
reading Farhad’s favorite books, which she records and publishes as audiobooks. A call from a friend as
well as the local gallerist informs Parvaneh that some people have been looking for her. At the end,
Farhad comes to where Parvaneh lives. It is unclear how much time has passed and what he has been
through, but by the time he gets to Parvaneh’s house – as a metaphor for the homeland - the place is an
empty ruin, covered in dust.

Director's note

Making my first feature film in my 60s is coming true of an old dream which I had in my mind since
when I was a teenager. And that dreams, now, have mixed with harsh issues of the time. Gazelle is the
story of endless, inconclusive searching for love; a love story which its sorrow is only one tale but,
according Hafez, “From everyone that I hear, it is never the same.”
